It’s nice to virtually meet you.
Here’s what you really need to know about me:
Born and raised in Augusta, GA
Growing up, in The Garden City, I quickly developed a deep connection and appreciation for my hometown. It’s so easy to love this place -- I can point out the exact spot I had my first kiss or the mailbox I accidentally ran over while learning how to drive or the exact bar stool I sat on when I met the love of my life. Over the years, my attachment to this city has grown and built me into an advocate for our little-big town, especially in our historic downtown district where my husband and I live, work and play.
Growing up I was pretty crafty
No, not the deceiving type...but the creative type. I was obsessed with creating beautiful handmade trinkets and enhancing my environment every second I could. I was watching HGTV and Bob Ross instead of cartoons and spending my allowance on home decor and art supplies instead of toys. Scrap booking with my grandma on the weekends was a gateway to other crafty activities like painting. At age 15, I taught myself how to paint. I had no idea what I was doing but I figured it out along the way. I began painting for friends. I painted portraits of their dogs, houses, etc. which quickly turned into a side business during college from word of mouth referrals.
Graduating from Augusta University
with a Bachelor in Communications is an accomplishment I am very proud of but felt, societally, pressured into. This sounds familiar right!? Don’t get me wrong, education is important but I didn’t NEED a degree to define my life’s purpose or qualify me for my next steps in life like I thought I did in my early 20’s. After graduation, I struggled with inner turmoil for months about my future career track. Should I pursue what people told me I needed to do or lean in to what felt right for me? So I did something kind of crazy... I went with my gut…
I couldn’t find the job I wanted. . .so I created it.
That’s right, I handed in a resume to *muh-self* I took on the scariest job of all time...being my own boss. With no background in business or color theory I decided to launch my undeniable passion, April Henry King Art, and it was a success. Three years later and I am still...
A full-time commission artist painting out of my in-home studio
I never, in a million years, imagined that this would be my life -- painting large murals, custom art, LIVE event paintings on a consistent basis. It is incredibly rewarding to create memorable works of art for my clients and learning their stories along the way. I am honored to do this work and so thankful for all my supporters. I can’t wait to work with YOU!
Much love
XOXO
